Stuck between a pilot and passport

We're choosing between a used 2019+ Honda Pilot or Passport AWD as a second car, and planning to keep it for about 5 years, driving 8–10k miles a year. The Pilot has more space and feels more future-ready for family growth, but it costs more. The Passport is more affordable, better for light off-road use, but lacks a third row. With potential extended family visits and occasional road trips, what's the smarter long-term pick for convenience, comfort, and value?

Pilot owner here, if growing family and road trips are in the mix, the extra space and third row really do pay off. It's smooth on highways, super comfy, and handles errands and adventures very well. It'll cost more up front, but for long-term comfort and flexibility, I'd say it's worth it.

That makes sense, but I keep thinking the Passport's lower cost and smaller size might make more sense day-to-day, do I really need the third row if it's only used once in a while?

From what I've seen, the 2026 Pilot doesn't bring major changes, mostly small updates like maybe new wheels or tech tweaks...it seems like Honda's holding off for a bigger refresh later

yeah comfort and space are big pluses, especially for road trips. I just wonder if I'll really use the third row enough to justify the extra cost day-to-day.

That's the thing with future planning, you can never be sure what you have planned will become true or not. To be fair, even if you never use the third row for people, you'll always have a massive boot to carry things. You mentioned the passport and it's off-road capabilities. Do you plan to go off-roading?
