well, I might be months late to this news but I just found out that the tonawanda rubber plant closed without notice and just poof... DISAPPEARED. THAT'S SO BAD. apparently they have been having agreements with the ECIDA so why does this happen? they gave incentives to give new job openings but the sumitomo plant just took away the job of 1,500 people. HEARTLESS!

I was thinking the same. what a betrayal to the workers right? Sumitomo pulled the plug without warning and just like that 1500 people are jobless in a blink of an eye. i just hope that locals will step in and find solutions for the ones affected. have you heard any updates about the workers?

I get why it feels heartless, but business decisions are often more complex, there might've been factors like economic shifts or competitiveness at play. the incentives may not have been enough to ensure long term stability, and while it's tough, these things aren't always as simple as just being cold hearted.

ok. but still if they took a long time to evaluate, wouldn't they have had ample time and consideration to let their workers know?

anyway thanks for your empathy @theoriginalflyboy :D

This! 1500 people feed their families, pay bills etc. I think at least they deserved to know ahead of time. I mean, i'm sure it wasn't an overnight decision.
